Miller Detasseling
IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW:
Start/End Dates and Typical Work Day: We work 7 days a week. We try to adhere to a 7am- 3pm work day. We usually start the Roguing season approximately the third week of June. We will not be Detasseling this season. Roguing lasts 5-6 weeks. The season usually ends during the last week of July.
Absences: We expect you to work every possible work day. Please plan vacations, appointments, etc. around work days. Plan these activities before June 17th (approximate start date) and after August 3rd. (approximate end date) Please let us know if you will have to miss work during these dates.
Drop off time may vary depending on weather and work available. It is best to be able to call your ride to let them know when you will be returning.
Have a plan to be picked up after work. Do not make the bus driver wait with you after work.
Water: Bring your own water (1 gallon). We provided water on the bus, but it is easier and faster to drink your own water. Canteens are encouraged in the fields. Hydration is VERY important.
Lunch: Bring lots of healthy food and drinks. It is hard work and we burn lots of calories.
Restrooms are available near and in every field.
Clothing: Wear long sleeves and long pants. Light colored clothing. Bring insect repellent, sun block. Rain gear is suggested. Put your name on clothes you might take off. Wear comfortable walking shoes/boots. Some wear "muck boots".
DO NOT BRING TOBACCO TO WORK. NO SMOKING
Cell phones: You may bring a cell phone, but you are NOT allowed to use while working in the field.
2025 WAGES - 1st year worker $9.00 2nd year 10.50 etc.
Returning Miller Crew workers will receive a $1.50 raise from previous year's wage. You receive the raise if you worked over 30 hours the previous season. Paid 1.5x overtime for over 40hr/week. If you have experience working with someone else, we can discuss your wage.
Attendance Bonus- Earn $25.00 when you work 6 consecutive AVAILABLE workdays.
Pay Day! Checks will be available one week after the pay period ends. The first pay period will be available the following Monday. You are paid weekly.
Calling Times: Please feel free to call us from 9:00 am - 9:00 pm with concerns, comments or if you miss work. (9-9 rule)
MANDATORY: The following MUST happen anytime you are in the field.
1. Safety glasses must be worn at ALL times ( Safety glasses are provided) If you have your own glasses, you may use them.
2. NO tank tops. You must wear a shirt with sleeves.
3. Gloves (provided) must be worn at all times in the field.
4. ABSOLUTELY NO HORSEPLAY.
Learn your job quickly and do your job consistently . Get better at it every day.
These safety rules are for your protection and are very important to Miller Detasseling. If you fail at any of these requirements, you may be terminated from employment.
